The Chinese premier and German chancellor jointly issued and signed the "Sino-German Joint Statement on Establishing a Strategic Partnership for Electric Vehicles" On June 28, 2011. In 2020, it was the tenth year of the Sino-German cooperation on electric vehicles. Under this special occasion, to deepen the cooperation in the field of NEV, Germany was invited as guest of honor while VDA was the co-organizer of WNEVC in 2020.
The 1st Sino-German Forum on Cooperation and Development of New Energy Vehicles within WNEVC was organized on September 28, 2020, hosted by VDA and China SAE. Mr. Gang WAN, Vice chairman of the CPPCC, President of CAST, President of WNEVC and Dr. Clemens von Goetze, Former Ambassador of German Embassy in China delivered the welcoming remarks. They both emphasized the importance to build a friendly political and economic relationship between Germany and China, as well as to establish a stable Sino-German cooperation in automotive industry especially on E-Mobility. Mr. Mingde SHI, Former Ambassador of China to Germany addressed that both countries made tremendous efforts to fight against the pandemic, which supports the resumption of production and work of automotive industry. Mrs. Hildegard Mueller, President of VDA delivered the welcome speech by video. Executives from Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler, SAIC, JAC as well as the industry experts from CATARC, Tongji University, Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent New Energy Vehicle delivered keynote speeches.
Co-hosted by VDA and China SAE, the 2nd Sino-German Forum was successfully held on September 16, 2021, in Haikou under the umbrella of WNEVC, where the government officials and representatives from VW, Daimler, FAW, Bosch, BMW, ZF, CATARC, CAICT, Tongji University etc. shared the industrial insights and discussed opportunities of bilateral collaboration under the target of carbon neutrality to promote the sustainable development in the field of NEV.
